Wii Sales Surpass N.E.S.
Nintendo announced that the Wii just surpassed the sales figures of the original Famicom/Nintendo Entertainment system while only in it’s 3rd year its lifespan. The original NES sold 61.91 Million units at the end of its life cycle in September 2003. Yeah, you read that right, they were making the Famicom and Super Famicom up until September 2003, giving the console an official lifespan of about twenty years.
The Wii sold like wild fire probably due to its price and usability. Anyone with a mom knows their first complaint about new video games is “there’s too many buttons.” The Wii alleviated that, offering a simple and immersive for everyone. New Super Mario Bros. Wii surely boosted sales at the tale end of the 2009, totaling an astonishing 10.55 million copies sold thus far, making it the sixth best-selling game on the Wii.
