Top Ten Scenes from the NES era

Categorized Under: Features, Videos  one Comment

This is just something I’ve been kicking around for a while. I got a Nintendo Entertainment System when it was released, on my 6th birthday.

Now that it’s over 20 years later, I thought it’d be a good time to look back and reflect on my favorite scenes, so here they are.

Killing Kids in Video Games

Categorized Under: Features, Videos, Vlogs  one Comment

I made this vlog to discuss not just the issue of violence against kids in games, but my feelings on the reactions I found. I think it’s both interesting and frightening that gamers forget that regardless of how realistic games have become, it’s all just pixels.

The Video

An addendum: All jokes aside, my ultimate point was that I am against all censorship when it comes to fantasy. The disgust seems to be a bit misplaced, as people forget that what hurdles we’ve already had to cross when it came to violence in games to begin with. Logically, I find it hard to be for so many forms of fantasy violence, and then against something because it doesn’t appeal to you.

Red Dead Redemption: The New Old West

Categorized Under: Features, Game Reviews, Reviews  2 Comments

Rockstar’s latest entry for 3rd person sandbox shooters comes in the form of Red Dead Redemption. You play as John Marston, a reformed outlaw doing deeds and killing his former brothers in arms for lawmen in order to free his family. With promises of combining the open-world experience of GTA with the Old West, my anticipation was certainly elevated. (Warning: Heavy GTA cross referencing)

Incase you didn’t hear our most recent podcast here is a brief summary our plan to keep Wapeach fresh. In short we kinda burned out trying to have 3 videos a week with only Tom and I recording footage and a few others doing commentary. Both of our lives have changed dramatically since we launched Wapeach, so with our change of circumstances comes the need to recalibrate.

To refocus we will be doing one Retrocut, our mainstay video series, per week accompanied by either a Secrets or an Indiependent Content. This will allow us to dedicate a level of quality to our videos we wouldn’t otherwise have the time to do. First, Retrocut will feature a string of three back to back episodes covering the entire Batman movie-based gaming franchise of the pre-Nolan era.

Another way we plan on keeping out focus is by utilizing our recently launched sister-site, othermediablog.com. Rather than clouding the gaming content on Wapeach with Comic, TV and FIlm related posts, we will push said content over to OMB. We will cross promote between sites on a regular basis.

We have some exciting opportunities ahead of us for Wapeach all to be announced this year, until then stay tuned.

Humble Indie Bundle!

  Categorized Under: News  one Comment

Hey guys. There is a fantastic deal going on right now and you have 6 days left to take advantage.

They say it pretty well, so I’ll copy pasta it.

The Humble Indie Bundle is a unique kind of bundle that we are trying out.

Pay what you want. If you bought these five games separately, it would cost around $80 but we’re letting you set the price!

All of the games work great on Mac, Windows, and Linux. We didn’t want to leave anyone out.

There is no middle-man. You can rest assured that 100% of your purchase goes directly to the developers and non-profits as you specify (minus credit card fees).

We don’t use DRM. When you buy these games, they are yours. Feel free to play them without an internet connection, back them up, and install them on all of your Macs and PCs freely.

Your contribution supports the amazing Child’s Play charity and Electronic Frontier Foundation. By default, the amount is split equally between the seven participants (including Child’s Play and EFF), but you can tweak the split any way you’d like.

World of Goo, Aquaria, Gish, Lugaru, Penumbra Overture are the games. Any one of these games alone is worth the price of admission and all 5 for whatever price you name? INSANITY.

We here at wapeach aren’t invested in this is any way, but it’s an awesome deal and charity is involved. Everyone wins. Tell your friends. Spread the words.

Play some kick ass indie games.

Super Mario Bros. Super Show: Episode 1

Neatness Counts (Live action) The Bird! The Bird! (Animated)

We have a long journey ahead of us. What I’m trying to do here is chronicle Mario’s animated adventures with a fresh set of eyes and ears. I was around when the shows first came out, and I remember greatly enjoying them, but how do they hold up?

We start off with a talking Mario head shouting “HEY PAISANOS”, which sets a nice precedent for all the Italian stereotypes that will be hurled your way, and there will be many. Anyway, Mario comes out and the Super Mario Bros. music we all know and love starts up. So far, so good. Read more »
